Hello friends,
When I go away on a trip I imagine leaving my home in a state of serenity. Plants watered and sitting in the bathtub to drain. The fridge cleaned out and food composted in the bin outside. The garden raked, pruned and ready for spring growth. The laundry folded, put away and laundry baskets tucked in the corner of the room, empty. A meal in the freezer, ready when we return hungry. Emails answered. Packages posted.1 And of course, newsletters written.
Ha!
A head of broccoli is languishing in the refrigerator, along with the ends of many blocks of cheese, sad leftovers and that opened jar of expensive tahini I swore I would use before if goes off but, I didn’t. There’s a Santa’s sack worth of laundry in front of the washer. The garden looks brown and sad. The pets are taken care of. Who knows about the plants. However we all did make it the door for a family Easter holiday, and I’m grateful for that.
All this to say, your letter this week, shall we say, is a stretch. This time, two years ago, I wrote about the stretching - stretching food, stretching bodies, stretching the lives of tulips, stretching my calves as I made a Swiss buttercream for my friend’s birthday cake. I re-read the letter this morning (when I was supposed to be cleaning out the fridge) and it made me smile.
So this week, please accept this story, stretching from the past and into today.
x Lindsay
PS my gluteus max and mins still need a good stretch. Pilates is so tough in a sling.
PPS what are your favourite ways with tahini?
Thoughts on Stretching and Buttercream
First things first - there’s a new episode of The Food Podcast out this week - An Idea to a Story. You can listen and find show notes over here!
Oh and my favourite way to use tahini is to mix with greek yoghurt, a few drops of lemon and olive oil whisked together as a dressing/dip/sauce.
I smugly am reporting for The Barossa Valley that somehow for the first time in decades I did indeed leave having ticked all the boxes. I can also report that the chances of me repeating this in the coming decades are remote. Enjoy your holiday and happy Easter xx
