Artfully written, Lindsay, and I would agree that there are times when time is immaterial. It's also a good reminder that we dust nearly every story we hear (and tell) with our own experiences and biases, potentially changing the way it lands in the process. I wonder, had those editors known in advance, if your essay would have been rejected. The bread recipe sounds delicious. What a beautiful tradition.
